After working in Patrol she served the department as a Detective where Rita worked as a member of the Crimes Against Persons Unit investigating Sex Crimes, and as an Internal Affairs Detective. Including her work as a patrol officer, she served the community as a Crime Prevention Officer in the East Patrol Division.
